Our Story

Built on morning walks to school

Every week it was the same battle. Lily, aged 10, brilliant and creative, would dread her weekly spelling list. I knew there had to be a better way — so we started brainstorming on our walk to school.

Lily had the ideas. "What if you could take a photo of the spelling list?" she asked. "What if it tracked which words you already know?" The features that make SpellJam special? Most of them came from a 10-year-old on a 15-minute walk.

We built it together. I coded, she tested, and she gave brutally honest feedback on everything. The results were dramatic — spelling scores went up, and more importantly, Lily started asking to practice.

SpellJam launched on the App Store in October 2024. Watching it go live — an app we dreamed up on morning walks — was one of the proudest moments of my life.
